Smart Sā¢bottle!
Only launched last year, and already the most popular bottle in the Netherlands! Of course, we are talking about the Sābottle. Although breastfeeding is best for your baby, it is your choice and bottle-feeding is a good alternative. This smart bottle can be used from birth and is ideal for combining breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. The unique Sāshape means that the teat is always full of milk and not air. Thanks to the valve in the base, your baby swallows less air and so has less trouble with burping, vomiting, colic and earache. The valve prevents a vacuum being created when baby sucks and ensures a constant flow of milk. Your baby can therefore feed undisturbed and then sleeps longer and more peacefully afterwards. As well as all these benefits for your baby, this bottle is also better for you. The Sāshaped design allows the feeding adult to sit in a relaxed, ergonomically sound position. There is less strain on the back and shoulders. Always hold the Sābottle with the short side at the top when feeding your baby.

705 Sābottle small (170 ml)
The ´newborn´ bottle Is especially suitable for newborn babies and can also be used later for juice and drinks in-between feeds.

706 Sābottle large (250 ml)
The standard bottle for the standard volume of feed.

707 Sābottle Wide Neck (310 ml)
The Wide Neck bottle with wide neck teats is good for combining with breastfeeding.
Taking apart and cleaning the Sābottle
- Unscrew the ring and cap of the Sābottle.
- Throw any left-over milk away.
- Rinse the Sābottle under lukewarm running water.
- Remove the teat from the ring and use the end of the bottle brush or a teat brush to thoroughly clean the inside of the teat.
- Clean the ring and bottle with the bottle brush.
- Rinse away the water and unscrew the valve in the base of the Sābottle.
- Remove the valve from the base and clean both parts with the bottle brush.
Sterilising the Sābottle (or teats) in the microwave
- Put all loose parts of the bottle in a microwave-safe bowl after rinsing them.
- Make sure there is enough water in the bowl to just cover the parts.
- Switch on the microwave and allow the water to boil for 3 minutes (this depends on the power of your microwave), so that all the parts of the bottle are sterilised. Remember how long this took for next time.
- Remove the bowl carefully from the microwave (it is a good idea to use oven gloves, as the bowl may be hot).
- Remove all the parts of the bottle with clean tongs or a fork and lay them on a clean tea towel to dry.
Sterilising the Sābottle in a pan
- Put all the rinsed parts in a pan of boiling water. (Do not add detergents or anything else to the water.)
- Make sure that everything is submerged.
- Everything will be thoroughly sterilised after 3 minutes.
- Remove all the parts of the bottle from the boiling water with clean tongs or a fork and lay them on a clean tea towel to dry.
Assembling the Sābottle
- Wash your hands and dry them on a clean towel.
- Pick up the base and the valve.
- Pinch the valve and check that the hole in the valve is open.
- Put the valve with the raised edge upwards into the base of the bottle and press the valve firmly into place.
- Screw the bottle onto the base tightly.
- Pull the teat through the ring. You can feel when it has been pulled over a small lip and is in the right position.
- Screw the ring with the teat onto the bottle.
- Put the sterilised bottle into the fridge or put the clean bottle into a cupboard. NB: Always sterilise the bottle before use.
Using the Medela breast pump with the small or large Sābottle (not the Wide Neck model)
- Breast milk can be expressed directly into the small or large Sābottle.
- Be careful – the Medela breast pump is heavy, so take care that the whole thing does not fall over.
- Unscrew the breast pump from the Sābottle.
- Screw the ring and teat onto the bottle and the bottle is ready to give baby a feed (or you can cover the teat with the cap and save the bottle in the fridge for later).
Warming the Sābottle with water in the microwave
- Fill the Sābottle with the correct measured amount of water.
- Put the Sābottle in the microwave without the ring or cap (so that it is open at the top).
- A bottle takes about 40 seconds on average to warm in a microwave. This varies depending on the power of your microwave and the amount of water to be warmed up. Time it carefully the first time, so that you know how long it takes to warm the bottle.
The Variflow teat on the Sābottle
- Pull the teat through the ring. (It does not matter which way round it is. Take no notice of the numbers on the teat at this stage.)
- Screw the ring and teat onto the bottle.
- Hold the bottle the right way round for feeding. This is with the convex side of the bottle downwards (this should lie in your hand when you are giving a feed).
- Mark the centre of the bottle with a felt marker on the ring (or make a little scratch mark with a knife).
- Unscrew the ring from the bottle again.
- Replace the teat in the ring, ensuring that now the number that you want I, II or III, is lined up with the mark you made.
- Pull the teat tight.
- Screw the ring back onto the bottle and the mark you made and the right number should be in the centre of the bottle.
- Ready for use.
